May 22 marks the International Day for Biological Diversity. Not long ago, a journalist followed Lin Hailun, a plant expert from Ningbo, into the Wulongtan Scenic Area of the Longguan Township for a field survey, experiencing the beauty of biodiversity.

Lin Hailun, now 59 years old, has been conducting long-term field research on plants and insects in Ningbo during his spare time since 1989. He has discovered two species of nationally first-class protected plants and over 100 new plant species at the municipal and provincial levels.

In 2022, Lin was appointed as an expert for the Longguan Township Biodiversity Think Tank, where he began in-depth research on native plants and butterflies in the area. His discoveries include several significant orchid species, such as Cremastra appendiculata and Cypripedium, as well as rare plants like Gesneriaceae.
